We made it!

Regents and stating test loom in the near future, but for now I hope everyone has the chance to relax, detach from work, and enjoy the time off!!

Big thanks to everyone for their participation in Tuesday's meeting!  Read on for information about RCS, Per Session, important dates, and more.

RCS: Based on your input at Tuesday's meeting and the Gateway 2 data, we decided on the following topics for the RCS scheduled for April 26th:
  • 1c (Setting Instructional Outcomes) and 1e (Designing Coherent Instruction)
  • 3c (Engaging Students in Learning)
  • 3d (Using Assessment in Instruction)
  • Domain 1 practice can have a trickle down effect on the other domains and 3c has a higher benchmark for Gateway 3 than 3b (which we also discussed as a topic) and engagement is generally higher leverage.

Important Dates:

  • May 7th: LI Meeting (Virtual) 4:30-6:30
  • May 9th: Virtual SBS via Google Hangouts or Free Conference Call

    • The topic is Family and Community Engagement
    • The May 8th session is now Peer Feedback on Unit Plan
      • The reason for the switch is because the Family and Community Engagement session lends itself better to virtual conversation and collaboration than the Peer Feedback on Unit Plan session.
  • May 16th: Final Teaching Portfolio due
  • May 20th-May 31st: Gateway 3
  • May 22nd: Final SBS

Per Session

    • Submit one per session form for pay period ending 4/30 with the corresponding sign in sheet (TR).
      • 4/17
    • Submit one per session form for pay period ending 4/30 with the corresponding sign in sheet (TN).
      • 4/16, 4:30-6:30

Upcoming SBS
May 1 - Educating All Learners Part II
  • Gateway 2 Reflection Paper due
  • As you review differentiation and grouping, remember to emphasize to PTs that even if they experience resistance to implementing these strategies in their Coach's classroom, they are important to learn for their future teaching.
    • Therefore, they should engage authentically in the practice on slide 19, even if they are uncertain if they can apply the techniques in their classrooms.
  • Layer in your own examples of differentiation and grouping.  Consider bringing in examples from your own classroom.
May 2 - Bias in Special Education and Discipline
  • UDL Reboot due
  • Be sure to establish and enforce norms at the start of this session; the topic can be very sensitive and we want to ensure a challenging and productive conversation in which people feel safe to share and respond to one another with honesty (and respect!).
  • Assignment Alert: Final Teaching Portfolio due 5/16.
    • For this, PTs MUST upload their work to Blackboard.  Anyone who is having troubling with Blackboard should contact the program through the Welcome Center ASAP.

LI News Blast #1: Logistics and Reminders

Hello LIs!!  Congratulations on your first week of facilitating Skill Building Sessions for your PTS!  I'm sure they had many questions for you, and you for us!  Please don't hesitate to reach out to us for support. Please also accept my deepest apologies for not being with you the first two days of SBS!  I've been very ill and was so disappointed to miss you all on Wednesday and Thursday! Going forward, this blog will be your first stop shop for questions and reminders.  You'll be able to search by "label" to find the specific information you're looking for.  For example, this blog post contains information about our substitute policy, so searching for the key term "sub" or "substitute" will pull up this post for quick access in the future. Additionally, each Friday post will contain tips for facilitating the following week's SBS.  Read on for important updates and information! LI Absence and Substitute Policy Steps
Happy Friday!  9 WAKE-UPS UNTIL SPRING BREAK! Short and sweet this week! Summer Positions You all should have received an email inquiring about your availability and interest in working this summer.  Please let me know if you have any questions.  You are also welcome to indicate in the reflection if you are only interested in subbing. Portfolios A few PTs have asked if the accumulation of points they receive on their assignments impacts whether or not they "pass" the program.  The answer is no.  Their assignments go into their Final Teaching Portfolio.  If they received a low score on an assignment, they can and should revise it before adding it to and submitting their Portfolio.  The overall score on their Portfolio  does  impact their ability to "pass" and teach in the Fall. PT Survey #2 Data Be on the lookout for your individual data with next steps!  We are still disaggregating data by LI.  You will have it before our meeting on April 16
